Mini vMac

Mini vMac is a portable miniature Macintosh emulator. It emulates a Macintosh Plus, one of the early Mac computers sold in the second half of the 80's. The emulator can run old Mac software that cannot be used on recent computers. For more information, check out the Mini vMac home page.

Mini vMac in the press!

In 2007, I wrote an article on Mac emulation for MacFan, a Dutch Macintosh magazine: "Terug in de tijd naar de T-Ford" (Mac emulation: Going back in time to the Ford Model T). The article gave an overview of various popular Mac emulators: SheepShaver, Basilisk II, and of course Mini vMac.

For more information, see MacFan issue 72, September/October 2007.

Dutch localization for Mini vMac

I have been working on a Dutch localization for Mini vMac. You can download the current version of the Dutch STRCONST.h here. For more information on the current state of translations, check out the Mini vMac Localization page. The Dutch localization is now included in Mini vMac 3.0.3.

Mini vMac for Solaris

I have created versions of Mini vMac compiled and packaged for Solaris 10 on SPARC and on x86. There are no packages for older Solaris releases here. Just let me know if there's any interest for them (a little email will do), and I'll make them available too.

February 14, 2010: The build system has targets for Solaris, so building the application is very easy. Unfortunately, no Solaris packages are generated (yet), so if you want to save yourself the trouble of having to compile sources, you can find pre-packaged binaries for Solaris 10 on SPARC and on x86 here.

August 16, 2013: It has been a while since I had time to package the latest stable version of Mini vMac, but the 3.2.3 packages are finally here:

minivmac-3.2.3.sparc.pkg
(129K) for Solaris 10 SPARC
minivmac-3.2.3.i386.pkg
(118K) for Solaris 10 x86

You can install them with the 'pkgadd' command, for example:

unix# pkgadd -d minivmac-3.2.3.sparc.pkg

The application installs in /usr/local:

unix# pkginfo -l minivmac
  PKGINST:  minivmac
     NAME:  Mini vMac
 CATEGORY:  application
     ARCH:  sparc
  VERSION:  3.2.3

You also need a copy of the Macintosh Plus ROM, this is not included for obvious reasons. Check out the documentation on the Mini vMac web site to find out how to obtain a copy of the Macintosh Plus ROMs.
